Know what changed in your Google Sheet, and who changed it.
Rowbell watches the columns you care about and sends an email, or a Slack, Discord, Google Chat or Teams message, with the old value, the new value, who made the change and a link to the row. It works with the spreadsheet closed.
Email us to get RowbellFree trial: 100 alerts or 14 days, whichever comes first. Then $9.99/month or $99.99/year. No charge unless you subscribe through checkout.

What it does
The actual change
Every alert shows the old value and the new one, side by side, plus who made the edit (when Google shares it) and a link that opens the sheet at that row.
Only what matters
Watch any column or just a few. Add conditions on text, numbers, dates and checkboxes: Status is Approved, Total is at least 1000, Paid is checked.
Once, not every edit
"A row starts matching" sends one alert when stock drops below 10, not another every time it changes while it stays low.
Right away or in a digest
Instant alerts, an hourly digest, or one daily email at the hour you pick, listing every change.
The right person for each row
Point at an email column and each rep, client or supplier hears only about their own rows. Add fixed addresses and yourself too.
Your team's chat
Paste an incoming-webhook link and alerts post to Slack, Discord, Google Chat or Microsoft Teams. Same price.
Built to catch every change
- Works with the sheet closed. Edits people make are checked within seconds. Changes no edit trigger can see (formulas, IMPORTRANGE, GOOGLEFINANCE, other apps writing to the sheet, form responses) are caught by an automatic hourly check.
- Sorting isn't a change. Rows are matched by an ID column you choose, and cells by column name, so sorting, inserting rows or adding a column doesn't set off alerts.
- No half-typed rows. A new row only counts once the column you pick is filled in.
- Never silent. If a column is renamed or a tab deleted, the alert card says so and you get one email that day. It picks up again on its own once fixed, and nothing in between is lost.
- No floods. After 20 instant alerts in an hour, the rest are grouped into the next hourly email.
Set up in two minutes
- Install Rowbell and open your Google Sheet (column names in the first row).
- Choose Extensions > Rowbell > Open alerts and click New alert.
- Pick the sheet, the columns to watch and, if you like, conditions.
- Choose who gets alerts and how often. Click Preview and Send test to me.
- Tick "I confirm these recipients expect these alerts" and click Save.
Emails are sent from your own Google account and count toward Google's daily sending limit (100 a day on free Gmail, 1,500 on Workspace). Google tells add-ons who made an edit only inside the same organization, so alerts elsewhere don't name the editor.
Stopping is one click
Pause or delete any alert in the sidebar. Extensions > Rowbell > Stop all alerts in this spreadsheet works for any editor, even if the sidebar won't open. Every alert email says who set it up and how to stop it.
Pricing
- Free trial first. 100 alerts or 14 days, whichever comes first. Test alerts and previews don't count. No card needed for the trial.
- What a plan includes: unlimited alerts, spreadsheets and recipients for one Google account, every feature on this page, and email support from a person. There is no monthly alert cap.
- Before the trial ends you get one email saying so. When it ends your alerts pause and you get one more email. Nothing is charged automatically; you pay only if you choose a plan in Stripe checkout.
- Prices are in US dollars. If sales tax or VAT applies where you live, checkout shows it before you pay.
- Renewal and cancellation. Plans renew automatically at the same price until you cancel. Cancel any time from Extensions > Rowbell > Upgrade or manage billing > Manage billing; you keep access until the end of the period you paid for.
- UK and EU customers: you can cancel within 14 days of subscribing for a full refund. Email hello@greatwork.company or cancel in Manage billing and ask for the refund; one step, no questions.
Compared with other notification add-ons
| What people say about others | Rowbell |
|---|---|
| "It only sends when the app is open." | Runs on Google's servers with the spreadsheet closed, including formula and import changes. |
| "The email text is all strung onto one line." | Your line breaks are kept, and changes are laid out with the old value struck through and the new one in bold. |
| "It just stopped working." | The sidebar shows the last check, a missing timer gets a one-click fix, and you get an email the same day something breaks. |
| "I'd like an update once a day instead of every time a change occurs." | Hourly and daily digests. |
| "The free plan went from 2 checks to 1." / monthly notification caps | One honest trial, then one plan with everything and no alert cap. |
| "Says free, then asks for payment." | The listing, the sidebar and this page show the trial and the price from the start. |
Permissions, in plain words
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| See and edit the spreadsheet the add-on is used in | Read the sheet you chose to watch, and keep the last-seen values in a hidden sheet named "Rowbell data (do not edit)" in the same spreadsheet. It can't open any other file. |
| Send email as you | Deliver alerts from your account to the people you chose. |
| Run when you're not present | Check for changes when someone edits and every hour, with the spreadsheet closed. |
| Display content in Google apps | Show the sidebar, menu and dialogs. |
| Connect to an external service | Check your trial or subscription at addons.greatwork.company (only your email address and a count are sent, never spreadsheet data), and post to a Slack, Discord, Google Chat or Teams webhook if you add one. |
| See your email address | Identify your license and name you as the alert's owner. |
Details: Great Work privacy policy, terms. Rowbell-specific: the hidden data sheet holds the last-seen values of watched columns and changes waiting for a digest; delete it any time and Rowbell starts fresh.
