Tickwell privacy policy
Last updated October 1, 2026. Tickwell is made by Great Work LLC. This page covers what's specific to Tickwell; our general add-on privacy policy applies to everything else (billing, support email, licensing).
Who this covers
Teachers (the Google account that installs Tickwell and owns the form) and students (anyone who opens a Tickwell timed link). The teacher's school or organization is the controller of student data in the form; Great Work processes it on their behalf only to run the timer.
What the add-on reads in your Google account
Only the form Tickwell is opened in (Google scope forms.currentonly): its questions, choices, sections, images and settings, so the timed page can show the same quiz. It also reads your Google account email to check your plan and to identify you to the Tickwell service. It cannot see your other forms, Drive files, email or Sheets.
Tickwell changes the form only as described in the sidebar: it adds four timing questions, makes your questions optional in Google while the timer is on (and restores them when you turn it off), and, if you choose, deletes responses that didn't come through the timed link.
What the Tickwell service stores
| Data | Why | Kept until |
|---|---|---|
| A copy of the form's questions, choices and images, and your timer settings | To show the timed quiz | You turn the timer off, or 30 days after its closing time, or 180 days without changes |
| Answers a student is still working on | So nothing is lost if their tab closes, and so they can be submitted at the deadline | Deleted as soon as Google accepts the submission (if Google refuses it, after 24 hours) |
| The name or email the student typed, start and end time, minutes allowed, how the attempt ended, how often they left the page | The attempt log in your sidebar, attempt limits, retakes | 30 days after the attempt ends, or when you turn the timer off |
| Your Google account email | To link the timed quiz to you and your plan | As long as the timed quiz exists |
We don't store students' IP addresses (a short-lived in-memory counter limits abuse), use cookies beyond the browser's own storage of the current attempt, run analytics or ad trackers, or ask for camera, microphone or location. We never sell data or use it for advertising or to train AI models.
Where answers go
Final answers are sent from our server directly to your Google Form, the same way a student's browser would submit it. From then on they're in your Google account under Google's terms.
Google API Services User Data Policy
Tickwell's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Data from your form is used only to provide Tickwell's timer and is not transferred to anyone else, except our hosting provider (DigitalOcean, United States) that runs the service.
Students and schools
Tickwell asks students only for a name or email, which the teacher's form would collect anyway. Schools that need a data processing agreement or a student-data privacy pledge can email us. To have a student's attempt record deleted early, the teacher can turn the timer off, or anyone can email hello@greatwork.company.
Security
All traffic uses HTTPS. The service runs as its own unprivileged user on a hardened server; requests from the add-on are signed, and the codes that mark a response as timed are never sent to the student's browser.
