Buzzwell privacy policy

Last updated October 1, 2026. Buzzwell is made by Great Work LLC. This page covers what's specific to Buzzwell; our general add-on privacy policy applies to everything else (billing, support email, licensing).

Who this covers

Hosts (the Google account that installs Buzzwell and owns the form) and players (anyone who joins a game at live.greatwork.company). For school use, the school is the controller of player data and Great Work processes it on its behalf only to run the game.

What the add-on reads in your Google account

Only the form Buzzwell is opened in (Google scope forms.currentonly): its questions, choices, answer key, point values and Image items, so the game can show the same questions and score them. It also reads your Google account email to check your plan and to identify you to the Buzzwell service. It cannot see your other forms, Drive files, email or Sheets.

Buzzwell changes the form only as described in the sidebar: with "Save answers to this form" on, it adds two questions at the end ("Live quiz player", "Live quiz result") and makes required questions optional while a game is running, then switches them back. A one-time background task 4 hours after a game starts switches them back if the sidebar was closed.

What the Buzzwell service stores

DataWhyKept until
The game: playable questions, choices, answer key, point values, images, your settings, your account emailTo run the gameDeleted with the game: 30 minutes after it finishes, when you close it from the sidebar, or after 6 hours without activity
Players: the nickname typed, answers, answer times, score; an email only if your form collects emails and saving is onTo score the game, show results and save them to your formDeleted with the game (same as above)
A random rejoin token in the player's browser tab (sessionStorage)So a phone that drops can rejoinCleared when the tab closes
IP addressesNot stored. Rate limiting happens in memory only, and web server access logs are off.n/a

The answer key is never sent to players' phones before a question closes. Other players' answers are never sent to a phone.

Where answers go

With saving on, when a game ends Buzzwell submits each player's answers, nickname and result (for example "3,400 points, 2nd of 23, 6/8 right") to your Google Form, the same way a person filling it in would. After that, your form is where the answers live, under your Google account's terms.

What's shown on the big screen

Nicknames in the lobby, how many players picked each answer, the top 5 and the podium. Written answers appear only if the host turns that on, and never with names. Nicknames are filtered for obvious profanity, and the host can remove any player.

What we don't do

No player accounts, analytics, ad trackers, cookies, camera or microphone. We don't sell data, use it for advertising, or use it to train AI models. Buzzwell's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Where it runs

live.greatwork.company runs on our own server at DigitalOcean in the United States. No other company receives form or player data.
